Dear Friends,
I wonder if, by now, we are all "Jubilee'd" out!
I do not know about you, but I was glued to
the television on Tuesday 4th June, watching every thing, from the service at
Saint Paul's Cathedral to the festivities on the Mall and the balcony
appearances and fly-past. It was a magnificent occasion. We have a gift, in this
country, of effortlessly (apparently) combining together ceremony and
celebration, pomp and pageantry.
How wonderful it was, also, to have news and
media largely dominated by good news, for once; by smiling faces, good-humoured
people and a crowd that was as exemplary in behaviour, as it was immense in
number. As human beings, we need good news to lift our spirits and to remind us
how fine human nature can be. This is where the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke
and John are so important.
They are "Good News". When Jesus
came to live on earth, He came, on the one hand, to immerse Himself in
the problems of the human condition - in sin, jealousy, poverty, disease,
oppression; but at the same time Jesus came to remind us that God will offset
our human afflictions. Where there is sin, He shows us purity and righteousness,
where there is jealousy, He gives us self-sacrificing love and humility. To
those who are in any way, poor, He offers the blessings of His grace and favour.
In God, all disease is healed, all brokenness restored to wholeness. Those who
are oppressed by the cares and conditions of life on earth, can yet find
themselves heirs to the Kingdom of Heaven. The Gospel of Christ is the Good News
of God.
We may be ready, now, to put the Queen's
Jubilee to rest, as we resume our normal lives. There must never be a time, when
we put the Gospel, the Good News of God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit to one
side.
May God bless us all richly in the months
ahead.
Valerie.

Our theme is past, present and future, therefore we will have
PAST - Girls Brigade of Ireland, Girls Life Brigade and Girls Guildry, Girls
Brigade 1965.
PRESENT - Girls Brigade Scotland in formal uniform, Girls Brigade
England and Wales in formal uniform, then activity uniform, carrying large globe
to show that we are an international organization.
FUTURE - Explorers and Young Officers carrying gold balloons then a saluting
party at the end.
Beverly Netherton had the privilege of taking part in the parade, along with
other girls and officers in the region. She had to wear an old style uniform.
Beverly had a very memorable day, something she will not forget for a long time.
