Torbay is situated on the south coast of South West England and is a popular holiday resort.  The Borough of Torbay comprises three towns - Torquay, Paignton and Brixham.

About our Church

THE SPIRITUAL LIFE OF CENTRAL

Services

Sunday - 10.30 - Morning Worship with Junior Church & Crèche (and Communion 1st Sunday of the month)
Sunday - 18.30 - Evening Worship (2nd and 4th Sunday, the service is run by a Worship Group, which is less formal; 3rd Sunday – Communion & Prayers for healing)

There is an opportunity for prayer 20 minutes before each Sunday service in Room 6

The Junior Church is particularly active with over 40 members.

Tuesday - 09.30 - 1st & 3rd Tuesday – Prayer Meeting.
2nd Tuesday - a service. 4th Tuesday – Communion.
Tuesday - 18.30 - Prayers for Healing
All are welcome to come along to pray for others

House Groups

Small informal groups for Bible Study, discussion, fellowship and mutual support.
Monday - 10.30 - Rosemary Gardens (weekly)
Monday - 19.30 - Southfield Avenue (fortnightly)
Monday - 20.00 - Lydwell Park (fortnightly)
Wednesday - 14.30 - Langland (monthly)
Wednesday - 19.30 - The Moors (monthly)
From time to time there are special courses for specific reasons e.g. Lenten Bible Studies, Alpha Courses

Choir

Central has a well-established and substantial Choir of around 30 members.
They practise at 19.30 on Friday's and take part in most Sunday services except those run by Worship Groups.

Pastoral Care

There is an established structure offering pastoral care to all members and adherents.
A monthly in-house magazine is produced and distributed to everyone.

Visitors

Situated in the centre of a tourist area, Central prides itself on its welcome to everyone who comes through our doors, and is particularly aware of its ministry to visitors.

THE SOCIAL LIFE OF CENTRAL

These meetings do not necessarily run every week of the year.

Guild

Meets weekly on a Tuesday at 19.30.
There are speakers on a wide range of subjects, musical evenings and evenings with spiritual interest.  Aimed at all age groups.

Women’s Fellowship

For the more mature ladies. Meets each Monday at 14.30. with speakers on a wide range of subjects. Transport can be arranged.

Ladies Circle

Meets every other Thursday at 19.45. Wide range of speakers, some open meetings for everyone, and occasional summer events. Aimed at all age groups.

Badminton Club

Meets several times a week, with substantial membership. Plays matches at home and away, and runs classes for beginners. Junior and Senior Clubs, social and league players welcome.

Flexercise Fun

Monday evenings at 18.30. A time of gentle exercise and fun.

Brownies

Monday evenings at 17.45.  For girls aged 7 – 10 years.

Guides

Monday evenings 19.15. For girls aged 11 – 16 years.

Young People’s Fellowship

Meets alternate Sunday evenings at 19.00. If you’re over 11 but under 21 you’re welcome!

Special Events Committee

This is an "umbrella" group that initiates and supports many one-off social events throughout the year. These include social entertainment evenings, summer BBQ’s and Treasure Hunt, Tea Dances.

Pantomime

Central puts on its own pantomime every two years.

With its multi-functional accommodation, Central has become a busy centre for gatherings of all types, concerts and recitals, run by outside bodies.

THE OUTREACH OF CENTRAL

Child Contact Centre

Operates each Saturday morning. Offers a friendly, neutral environment for children to meet with a parent who is no longer living in the family home.
Each week eight/ten families attend and are supervised by three volunteers.

Network

A women’s organisation dedicated to funding much needed projects worldwide.

Checkpoint

A trolley is available each Sunday to receive food items for people aged 13 – 25 who are sent to the church from this charity.

Minstrels

A group of singers who entertain outside groups (e.g. disabled) from time to time.
